As LJMU’s first professor of architecture and urban design, having the privilege to collaboratively create a new curriculum. Apart from pursuing excellence and rigour, students and tutors engaged with matters of ethical clarity, ecological determinants, buildings / life cycles, and developing habits of care, reciprocity and rest. Pushing out the boat on ambitions for final year design, involving group and individual efforts.

Group work on a new town north of Liverpool on military land. These teams normally comprised 3 to 4 people, each playing a role in the game.

Each student’s final year ended with a CDP (Comprehensive Design Project or thesis) where they demonstrated the integration of History and Theory and Technology and Practice into their design.

 

Small publications appeared every year. On leaving, the school had quadrupled in size.
